Niger govt calls for collective efforts against banditry

The Niger state government in its efforts reversing the incessant banditry and terrorism attack has called on residents in the state to join hands and put an end to the ugly trend.

Chief Press Secretary to Niger state Governor Mrs Mary Noel Berje stated this while addressing journalists in Minna on steps taken by the state government to bring to the barest minimal security challenges bedevilling some parts of Niger state.

Mrs Mary Noel Berje lamented that despite numerous efforts by Niger state government at converting insecurity problem of constitutional lacuna which limit the powers of Governor Abubaka Sani Bello to act with dispatch as regards to usage of security personnel remain a serious challenge.

According to the CPS, Niger State Government had supported all security apparatus with logistics and welfare packages to enhance effective operation against terrorists in addition to signing d Vigilante Corps law towards unifying all voluntary local security groups in the state.

Mary Noel Berje said that Gov Sani Bello has on several occasion reached out to President Muhammadu Buhari and Service Chiefs in an effort to bring back normalcy to d State in addition to supporting the IDPs with relief materials and personally visiting them to ameliorate their hardship.

She solicited for the support of Journalists and other critical stakeholders in addressing the problem of armed banditry kidnapping cattle rustling and all forms of criminality in parts of Niger state and Nigeria.

Mrs Mary Noel Berje expressed disgust that the evil activities of these terrorists have brought setbacks in the actualisation of Niger state government multi billion naira Bobi Grazing Reserve and road projects within the affected communities.
