Nigeria-Morocco gas project: NNPC signs 4 MoUs with 3 countries

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has signed four Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with three countries in furtherance of the implementation of the Nigeria Morocco Gas Pipeline Project in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Signing the legal documents were the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the NNPC Limited, Mall. Mele Kyari; the Director General (DG) Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco Ms. Amina Benkhadra; General Manager (GM) Senegal Petroles du Senegal (PETROSEN) holdings of Senegal, Adama Djallo and Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH) of Mauritania, Tourad Adoul Baghi.

The signing of this MOU is a follow-up to the MOU signed between the NNPCL, ONHYM of Morocco and the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) held on the 15th of September, 2022 in Rabat Morocco.

Speaking at the occasion, the GCEO of NNPCL Mall. Mele Kyari reiterated the company’s commitment to the NMGP Project, stating that the project is a critical one that will foster integration and bring economic prosperity to the African region.

He said: “Integration of West African economies through the NMGP project is critical for the region’s economic growth and the NNPCL is committed to converting the project into functional value for all transit nation”.

Also speaking at the occasion, the DG ONHYM, Ms Amina Benkhadra said, her organisation was committed towards the integration of West African economies through the project, which she said will help cut down Green House Gas emissions and meet up with Europe’s gas requirements.

” This project has benefits for the region and the integration of our sub region which is very important for the increase and prosperity of our continent” she said.

The NMGP Project upon completion is expected to supply three billion standard cubic feet of gas along the West African Coast from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania to Morocco.
