Nigeria police conclude AI workshop, named priority partner for African AI policing pilot

*ABUJA* — The Nigeria Police Force has concluded the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop on Advancing Innovation, Governance, and the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Law Enforcement, with a pledge to translate discussions into practical action across commands nationwide.

The 2-day workshop ended Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Abuja. It brought together police leaders, technology experts, and international partners to examine how AI is reshaping security operations and to chart a practical path for adoption within the Force.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, said the conversations reinforced “a simple but urgent truth: artificial intelligence is no longer something to prepare for in the distant future—it is already reshaping how security agencies operate around the world.”

He thanked participants, facilitators, experts, and partners for making the dialogue a success and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the partnership.

A major highlight of the workshop was a presentation on outcomes from the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, which recognized Nigeria as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot.

Participants were urged not to let the knowledge “remain in the conference room” but to take it back to their commands and translate it into action on the ground.

Over the course of the workshop, participants explored real-world applications of AI in policing, examined challenges of adopting new technologies, and drew lessons from global experiences to guide the Nigeria Police Force’s approach to innovation and governance.

The Force, in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc(+), mnipr, mni, on June 4, 2026, expressed gratitude to all contributors for supporting efforts to build safer communities and a police service accountable to citizens.

The workshop signals the Nigeria Police Force’s growing focus on digital transformation as it seeks to leverage AI for crime prevention, investigation, and improved service delivery.
