Nigeria-US bi-national commission to hold sixth session in Abuja

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria wishes to inform that Nigeria will host the Nigeria-United States Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Abuja from 24th – 30th April, 2024.

Established in 2010, the Nigeria-US BNC serves as a platform for high-level discussions on issues of mutual interests, with a view to enhancing cooperation on shared priorities.

The Nigeria-US Bi-National Commission (BNC) comprises various working groups covering a range of areas of cooperation between the two countries.

There are currently five (5) Working Groups namely,

i. Shared Prosperity, which focuses on economic development and trade relations;

ii. Security Cooperation;

iii. Democracy, Governance and Accountability;

iv. Movement of People; and

v. Partnership, involving global issues, multilateral reforms and health.

It is therefore, expected that both sides would leverage on the strategic engagement to address mutual challenges and pursue common goals.

Held alternately in the capitals of the two countries, the 6th Session of the BNC will be co-Chaired, on the Nigerian side by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar (0ON) and on the US side by the Deputy Secretary of State, H.E. Kurt Campbell.

Other Participants at the event, will include top government officials from both sides, experts, diplomats, policy makers, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations among others.
