NNPC clears air on 17 million barrels of crude oil exportation

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company NNPC Limited has denied an allegation that it exported crude oil worth 17.877 million barrels without proper documentations from 2016 to 2020, as reported by an online publication.

The publication made reference to the Auditor General’s report where about 32 oil marketing companies were involved in the non completion of the Nigeria Export Promotion (NXP) forms.

A press statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPCL, Garba Deen Muhammed described the publication as malicious, saying it should be disregarded.

He said , “The general public is advised to disregard the said malicious publication, and instead, visit the relevant Auditor General’s website to see the full content of the audit report, and be guided accordingly”.

The statement said even though the report mentioned 32 oil marketing companies involved in the non completion of the NXP form, this does not mean that proceeds from the sale of that crude weren’t deposited into the coffers of the NNPC and by extension into the federation account.

Here is a full text of the statement

“Our attention has been drawn to an online publication, alleging that @nnpclimited exported 17.877 million barrels of crude oil without proper documentation in four years (2016 to 2020).

The Auditor General’s report in reference did mention 32 oil marketing companies involved in the non-completion of the NXP forms; but that does not in any way mean that the proceeds from the sale of the said crude were not repatriated into the coffers of @nnpclimited and consequently into the Federation Accounts for Federation related barrels.

It should also be noted that the nnpclimited does not appoint Inspection Agents as alleged, but rather, it is the sole responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Therefore, the general public is advised to disregard the said malicious publication, and instead, visit the relevant Auditor General’s website to see the full content of the audit report, and be guided accordingly.
