North East governors hold maiden meeting in Gombe

Governors of the North East states held a maiden meeting in Gombe on Thursday where they discussed regional challenges, security, economy and infrastructure, among other issues of common interest.

Those present at the meeting are Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Babagana Umara Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), and Taraba State Deputy Governor Haruna, who represented Gov. Darius Ishaku.

The governors also received a briefing by officials of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and deliberated on the recent discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in the zone, prospects and problems of power generation and the role of Discos.

The host, Governor Yahaya, said the aim of the consultative meeting is “to close ranks among our states and chart a way forward for the North-East subregion, it will give us the chance to interface and dialogue on the ways to follow in order to attain our aspirations and objectives.”

A communique is expected at the end of the meeting.
