NSCDC officer, pregnant wife and son die in Minna road crash

  • 2 other ladies receiving treatment in hospital

A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer ASCII Muhammad Abdulrahman and his pregnant wife Khadija Usman have died in a road accident on the Minna-Suleja highway on Sunday.

His 3-year-old son and two ladies survived the crash with various degrees of injuries and were taken to the General Hospital Lambata. The son later died.

The officer, who hailed from Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, was said to be travelling to Minna, Niger State from Kaduna when the accident occurred near Kwakuti, about 60 km to Minna.

According to a Facebook user, YM Baba, who said he saw the accident live and even participated in the rescue operation, described it as one tragedy he won’t forget.

He said the deceased NSCDC officer was travelling in a Toyota Corolla car with number Abuja (KUJ 309 AQ), along with his wife, son and two other ladies.

He said the Toyota vehicle skidded off the main road and hit a parked water tanker at a place where company trucks and machines were parked.

The NSCDC officer and his wife, who were seated in the front, died instantly. “I rushed to save the lives of others. I even got confused as to whom to start with because already the driver was bleeding from multiple injuries and the wife was directly facing the broken iron where the water was gushing, I just decided to start by saving the ones still breathing

“My colleague Abdullahi Muhammad Ishaq Kuta, HM Tatiko, MI Ladan and Musa Musa Shaba and other people I didn’t even know, helped in breaking the car door. We successfully brought out two girls from the back seat, both of them injured.”

He said in the course of the rescue effort, they heard the cries of a baby and they immediately worked to bring him out.

“I picked him on my shoulder while he was crying and bleeding. We took the boy and thw two ladies to General Hospital Lambata, while the officer and the wife were taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital Minna.”

Also speaking, Abdullberqy U. Ebbo said “We lost a brother and his pregnant wife this afternoon from auto accident along Kwakuti road, they were blessed with a son about three years of age who survived but currently hospitalised.”He later said the son also died.
