The former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai has disclosed that he was among officers that former President Olusegun Obasanjo pencilled down for compulsory retirement when he was in power 21 years ago.
Buratai said he was a major at the time, adding that his course mates in the military had even organized a send forth for him as he was leaving the army.
The former army chief, who was speaking during a handing over ceremony at the Army headquarters which was streamed live, said providence saved him from being retired.
He described as a miracle how, after escaping Obasanjo’s compulsory retirement, he later rose to become the Chief of Army Staff, which according to him, is the dream of every regular combatant officer in the army.
Buratai thanked officers and men of the army, his colleagues and his family for the support he received while serving the nation as army chief.
Also, he wished his successor, Maj Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, a successful tenure.
