There was mild drama at Mayo-Ine Area Court, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, after an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa village, allegedly cut off the hand of the judge, Hon. Dauda Hamman, with a cutlass.
The incident occurred while the judge was presiding over a case between the suspect and one Ismail Yusuf on 31st August, 2026.
The suspect attacked the judge with a cutlass and severely cut his hand, causing him grievous injuries.
Following the incident, Dahiru Garba was immidiately arrested by police operatives and the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fufore to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yola on 4th September, 2026 for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
Upon completion of investigation, the suspect was on Monday, 8th September, 2026, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng, on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.
The police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, prosecuted the matter. When the charge was read and interpreted to him, the defendant pleaded guilty and blamed the devil for his action, saying he deeply regretted it.
The Court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, assures the public that the matter will be diligently prosecuted to ensure justice is served.
