Pioneering Excellence: Hajara Umar Sanda’s Inspiring Journey in Mass Communication

Mrs. Hajara Umar Sanda’s remarkable career in Mass Communication has left an indelible mark, especially in Nigeria’s Northern region. Her recent milestone of becoming the first woman to attain the rank of Professor in the Mass Communication Department at Bayero University Kano (BUK) is a testament to her dedication and expertise.

Mrs. Hajara’s journey to this historic achievement is indeed impressive. She embarked on her academic path by obtaining a B.A. in Mass Communication from BUK in 1992, laying the foundation for her future endeavors. In 2008, she continued her pursuit of knowledge, earning an M.A. in Mass Communication from the same institution. Undeterred by challenges, she continued to excel, completing her Ph.D. in Mass Communication at BUK in 2014. Additionally, she acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the Federal College of Education, Kano, in 2001, further enriching her educational background.

Mrs. Hajara’s commitment to global academic experiences is evident in her time as a Fulbright visiting scholar at Ohio University in the USA during the 2011/2012 academic year. This international exposure undoubtedly broadened her horizons and contributed to her wealth of knowledge.

Within BUK, she held key leadership positions, serving as Sub Dean Academics in the Faculty of Communication in 2016 and later assuming the role of Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs in 2020. These roles showcased her leadership skills and dedication to nurturing the academic environment.

Mrs. Hajara’s impact extends beyond the borders of Nigeria. She actively participated in numerous conferences and workshops worldwide, making valuable contributions to the field of Mass Communication. Her extensive list of publications in local and international journals, along with widely used educational books, highlights her scholarly contributions.

Her memberships in prestigious organizations underline her commitment to advancing Mass Communication. Her promotion to the esteemed rank of Professor in September 2023, as officially approved by the Bayero university’s Senate, is a testament to her years of hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Mrs. Hajara Umar Sanda’s journey serves as an inspiration not only to women but to all aspiring scholars. Her story embodies the qualities of dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence, making her a true trailblazer in the field of Mass Communication.
