The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Emmanuel Adoga, over alleged rape and armed robbery in Ogoja Local Government Area.
The Command disclosed this in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on October 16, 2026.
According to the police, the case was reported on October 9, 2026, through a petition submitted by the father of the 22-year-old survivor.
The petition alleged that the suspect threatened the survivor with a dangerous object, had unlawful sexual intercourse with her and forcefully took her Infinix Smart 7 mobile phone. It further alleged that the suspect demanded an additional sum of N15,000 from the survivor.
Following the report, police operatives commenced investigation and arrested the suspect on October 12, 2026.
The mobile phone alleged to have been stolen has been recovered. Operatives also visited the reported scene and obtained relevant photographic and electronic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Command said preliminary investigations are examining the allegation that the suspect used a hammer, allegedly presented as a firearm, to threaten the survivor.
“Efforts are ongoing to recover the suspected object and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The survivor has undergone medical examination and is receiving treatment, while the Command remains committed to protecting her dignity, welfare and privacy,” the statement said.
The police said further investigative steps, including referral to the State Criminal Investigation Department where appropriate, will be undertaken.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reiterated the Command’s commitment to investigating allegations of sexual violence and other serious crimes professionally and in accordance with due process.
He urged members of the public to promptly report criminal incidents and cautioned the public and media against circulating names, photographs or other information capable of identifying or further traumatising survivors of sexual violence.
