Police arrest human trafficking kingpin, rescue 11 in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Aiiyu Ubale, of Babban Mutum village in Baure Local Government Area of the state and rescued 11 victims.

The command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, disclosed this while parading the suspect alongside other criminals in the state, saying the command succeeded in arresting the suspect based on credible intelligence information.

According to him, Ubale specialises in trafficking children from Nigeria to Europe through Niger Republic-Libya route.

“We succeeded in rescuing 11 victims; about three males and eight females all from the southern part of Nigeria, they came down through Kano to Katsina State, and they were found in the man’s residence waiting to be taken to Niger Republic to Libya and then Europe.

The victims rescued are eight females Safiya Adeleko, 21, of Itsesi, Isale Ake, Ogun state; Vivian Illoyo, 30, of Ugbighoko, Benin, Edo state; Ogumma Aliam,19, of Ungnadolo, Benin, Edo state; Glory Jacob, 35, of Atoyi Street, Edo state, Joy Anthony, 21, of Sepele LGA, Delta state; Aminat Da’ud, 25, of Badagry, Lagos State; Halimat Adeneye, 26, of Abeakuta, Ogun state; and Aisha Oludeu, 21, of Tafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The rescued males are Lucky I. Gima, 37, of Agbor, Delta state, Godness Umba, 34, of Abia state and Ikel Isaac, 24, of Uli LGA of Anambra state.

In the course of investigation, suspect confessed to be a member of human trafficking syndicate and he kept the victims in his house for trafficking to Libya and onward transportation to Europe.

Victims will be handed over to NAPTIP office in Kano. Investigation is ongoing.

He added investigation is ongoing to arrest more traffickers in the state, and the case would be transferred to Kano for further investigation.
