Cyprus police have arrested a 43-year-old man man – reportedly from Nigeria – carrying a knife who attempted to gain access to the GSP stadium in Nicosia where Pope Francis was performing mass on Friday morning.
According to Reuters, a second security source, requesting anonymity, said the knife appeared to be ‘for personal use’ and appeared unrelated to the presence of the Pope in Cyprus.

The Pope arrived in Cyprus at the main Larnaca airport on Thursday for a two day visit.
Over 500 police officers are currently deployed for the visit, including a police helicopter.
Tweeting from the same event this morning, the Cypriot president wrote: “I gladly participate, together with thousands of believers, in the great Divine Liturgy that is currently taking place at GSP. It is a special moment for Cyprus and for all of us”. (Famagusta-Gazette.Com)
