Police arrest three over kidnapping, killing of 14-year-old neighbour

Victim stabbed in the neck and body dumped inside soakaway at an uncompleted building

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 14-year-old son of a neighbour and going ahead to demand N4million from his father for his release.

The suspects stabbed their victim in the neck and threw his body inside a soakaway at an uncompleted building in Sabuwar Zara Quarters Kano, spokesman of the Kano State Police Command SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said in a statement on Thursday.

Below is full text of the police statement titled: “Arrest of three (3) suspects for kidnapping and killing their 14-year-old neighbour’s son”

On 08/02/2024 at about 1100hrs, a report was received from one Alhaji Rabiu Abdullahi, ‘m’, of Hotoron Fulani Quarters Kano that he received a phone call from an unknown person that his son, Abdullahi Sani, aged 14 years old, ’m’, of same address was kidnapped and a ransom of Four Million Naira (N4,000,000:00) was demanded for his release.

The situation prompted, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc engaged a team of Policemen from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command to ensure the rescue of the victim and arrest the perpetrators.

The Team immediately swung into action. Preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the principal suspect; Ismail Adamu, aged 22 years old, ‘m’, of Hotoron Fulani Quarters, Kano on 12/02/2024.

In furtherance to the investigation, the said Ismail Adamu confessed to having conspired with one Risi, ’m’, of Mariri Quarters Kano and kidnapped the victim.

The suspect further revealed that they took the victim to Sabuwar Zara Village where they stabbed him in his neck and threw him inside a Soakaway at an uncompleted building in Sabuwar Zara Quarters Kano, and later contacted the father and demanded four million naira (N4,000,000:00) for his release.

Furthermore, the crime scene was visited by the Police Operatives where the deceased body was removed from the Soakaway and evacuated to Abdullahi Wase Specialists Hospital Kano where a Medical doctor certified the body dead and it was deposited at the Hospital’s Mortuary.

The discreet investigation led to the arrest of two suspects; namely, Musa Usman, aged 17 years old, ‘m’, of Hotoron Fulani Quarters Kano, and Abdullahi Usman, aged 20 years old, ‘m’, of the same address that assisted the principal suspect in the negotiation of the ransom with a mobile phone. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police while appreciating the good people of the State for their support, cooperation, and understanding, reiterates that the Police Command remains resolute towards fighting all forms of crime and criminality in the State.
