The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected Sara-Suka thugs following separate attacks in parts of Bauchi metropolis on Sunday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to reporters in Bauchi.
Habib said the incidents occurred in Wayan Makafi, Unguwan Kur and Kofar Dumi areas.
He said a distress call was received at about 9:15 p.m. over activities of suspected Sara-Suka youths who invaded Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur, causing panic among residents.
According to him, a patrol team from D Division, Dutsen Tanshi, working with members of the Yan Committee, was deployed to the areas and dispersed the youths.
He said a member of the Yan Committee sustained injuries while helping to restore order and was receiving medical attention in stable condition. One suspect was arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others who fled.
In a separate incident, the police arrested a 25-year-old suspected Sara-Suka leader, Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, popularly known as Zadous, over an alleged attempt to attack a Peace Corps personnel at Kofar Dumi.
Habib said the suspect and other armed youths stormed the victim’s residence at about 6:30 p.m. allegedly intending to attack him.
He said preliminary investigations indicated the suspect was on a revenge mission against the Peace Corps personnel, who had reportedly reported his activities to the police about seven months ago.
He added that the suspect had previously been charged to court by A Division, Township, over alleged thuggery and regained his freedom last week.
The PPRO said the suspect remains in custody and would be charged to court after investigations.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has warned that the Command will not tolerate Sara-Suka activities, thuggery or public disturbances in the state.
The Commissioner directed officers to sustain patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations to maintain peace and urged parents, guardians and community leaders to caution their wards and provide credible information to prevent crime.
