The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has raided a criminal hideout in the Idu Uruan Local Government Area, arresting two suspected drug dealers and recovering a large quantity of illicit substances.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Uyo.
John stated that the operation, which was conducted at about 0130 hours on Sept. 9, followed credible intelligence received by the Command regarding criminal activities at the location.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police operatives conducted a coordinated raid on the hideout, leading to the arrest of Fortune Effiong (male) and Comfort Effiong (female).
A thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis sativa), which are believed to have been intended for distribution and consumption.
The police spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to duty, and has ordered a full investigation.
“The Command is particularly concerned about the activities of individuals and criminal networks involved in the illicit distribution of narcotic substances, given the devastating consequences of drug abuse on public safety, youth development, and the overall security of communities,”John said.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police reiterated that Akwa Ibom will not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminals, drug dealers, cultists, violent offenders, or any elements whose activities threaten the peace and security of law-abiding citizens.
John urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing credible, timely information regarding suspected criminal activities to the police.
The police spokesperson assured them that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality to strengthen ongoing security operations. (NAN)
