The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife for alleged culpable homicide following a domestic incident that claimed the life of her co-wife at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
The Command said its C-Division received credible information on September 27, 2026, at about 4:05 p.m. about a domestic incident between two co-wives residing in the same household.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, Hauwa’u Haruna, 33, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, Jamila Adamu, 43, on the forehead. The victim fell unconscious.
Detectives from C-Division were mobilized to the scene, documented it and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Police said the suspect has been arrested and the pestle used in the alleged offence recovered as exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned the public against domestic violence, advising families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for members exhibiting mental health challenges.
