Police arrest Zamfara highway kidnapper, recover AK-47 rifle

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a notorious bandit, Sani Mati, also known as Mai ‘Yammata, who allegedly specialised in kidnapping and cattle rustling.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, stated this while briefing newsmen in his office on Wednesday.

Elkana said, “On  December 28, 2021, around 5am, police tactical operatives deployed along Zurmi axis while on a confidence-building patrol acted on intelligence information that led to the arrest of a notorious bandit, Sani Mati (Mai Yammata).

“He was arrested while trying to block the road and kidnap innocent commuters at a village called Koliya.

“He earlier belonged to Turji’s camp, but now operating under a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Sani Black, who operates in the Zurmi, Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji axis.

“He was arrested with one AK-47 rifle, double magazines with three rounds of ammunition and a boxer motorcycle.
