Police begin probe as women burn Plateau monarch’s house

The Plateau State Police Command said on Friday it had commenced an investigation into the burning of the house of Michal Adanchi, the district head of Bokkos town in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state, during a protest by some women in the community.

It was gathered that the women set the house ablaze at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday, following the arrest of some members of the community over alleged involvement in the recent killings in the area.

Recently, some villages in the state were attacked a few days before Christmas, which led to the loss of the lives of more than 150 people and the destruction of property worth millions of naira, with over 10,000 people displaced.

Speaking with our correspondent, the spokesperson for the command, Alabo Alfred, said that calm had been restored in the area.

He said, “We have restored calmness to the area, and we are doing a lot. Because of strategy purposes, I cannot tell you. We are doing a lot, and we have restored peace to the area. We are working on the arrest, and I will give you feedback very soon.”

He added that the command was working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
