Gunmen in Zamfara State have killed over 40 people in a spate of attacks on some communities.
But the Zamfara State Police Command, after confirming the attacks to the BBC, said 35 people were killed.

The attacks took place in about five villages in Maradun Local Government Area of the state between Thursday and Friday.
Witnesses told the BBC that the attackers stormed the villages of Gidan Adamu, Gidan Maidaji, Bauci, Wari, Kyara and Gidan Maidawa on motorcycles.
One of the witnesses said 42 people were killed.
“It happened on Thursday from around 12pm until 4pm, when the bandits stormed the area on about a 100 motorcycles,” the witness said.
