
The Police Command in Anambra has arrested a suspect, Okechukwu Chinweko, over alleged abduction, rape and unlawful possession of firearm in Umudike community, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Awka.
“Anambra police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of May 16, acting on credible information, stormed an identified hideout in Umudike community, Awka, and arrested one Okechukwu Chinweko, male, aged 30.
“The suspect, popularly known as “Bullet,” was arrested over alleged involvement in a case of abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearm,” he said.
Ikenga revealed that the suspect had a tattoo on one arm with an inscription “Bullet.”
He said that during the operation, the operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight 9mm live ammunition.
The police spokesman said that preliminary information revealed that the suspect was identified in connection with an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, where he allegedly abducted and raped a female before police operatives rescued her.
“The victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while he fled the scene,” he said.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, no matter how long it takes.
The PPRO said that the case would be charged to Court at the conclusion of the ongoing investigations. (NAN)
