Police recover 44 rustled cows, 24 sheep in Niger

The Police Command in Niger says it has recovered 43 rustled cows and 24 sheep in Munya Local Government Area of Niger.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command’s spokesperson disclosed in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Minna.

According to him, joint security operatives received a report at about 7:00 p.m. on May 14, suggesting banditry/cattle rustling in Munya local government area, and responded accordingly.

He stated that the operatives engaged the miscreants in a fierce gun battle, which forced the hoodlums to abandon the rustled cattle.

“A total of 67 cattle, which consist of 43 cows and 24 sheep were recovered during the engagement.

“The animals were later handed over to the rightful owners in collaboration with the local government authority, ” Abiodun said.

In a related development, the Police said operatives recovered another rustled cow in Maikunkele, Minna.

Abiodun said that on May 13, at about 8:00 p.m., police Operation Flush team attached to Maikunkele Division, while on routine patrol around Rafin-yashin area, sighted two persons dragging a cow.

He said that the suspects on sighting the Police team took to their heels and abandoned the cow.

“The exhibit was recovered and efforts to locate the rightful owner is ongoing, ” the PRO said. (NAN)
