Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have rescued nine passengers and repelled an attack by suspected armed bandits on the Jos-Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Monday, July 27, 2026, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, at about 5:30pm.
The DPO of Doguwa Division received a distress call that a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number BKK 6824 XA, en route from Jos to Kano, was attacked by armed men at the Folgore Forest axis, between Gate Two Safer Highway and Dogo Dutse.
The statement said five suspected bandits armed with machetes and a firearm blocked the highway, attacked the vehicle and abducted 13 out of the 20 passengers on board.
“Upon receipt of the information, the DPO Doguwa Division immediately mobilized a team of tactical Police operatives and proceeded to the scene. On arrival, the team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel,” the statement read.
As a result of the operation, nine victims were successfully rescued. One other male victim later escaped from captivity.
Unfortunately, three victims remain in captivity, comprising one male and two females.
The rescued passengers were evacuated to Doguwa General Hospital for medical evaluation and are said to be in stable condition.
The Command said it has intensified manhunt operations, with the deployment of additional tactical teams and sustained intelligence gathering to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining captives and arrest of the fleeing perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended members of the public for providing timely information and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, especially women and children.
He urged the public to continue reporting suspicious movements to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing and further developments will be communicated in due course.
The operation was carried out under the intelligence-led and community-centred policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
