The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), FCT Chapter, on Saturday, 29th August, 2026, held an empowerment summit organised by the Chairperson, FCT POWA, Hajiya Maimuna Muhammed Sanusi, at which 110 police wives and widows were beneficiaries.
This is part of the Association’s commitment to strengthening the wellbeing of families of serving and fallen police officers.
The empowerment programme, which took place at the FCT POWA Secretariat, Utako, Abuja, under the theme, “Empowered Women, Stronger Families, Stronger Society,” was designed to provide beneficiaries with support and opportunities to improve their livelihoods, strengthen their families and contribute meaningfully to society.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson, FCT POWA, Hajiya Maimuna Muhammed Sanusi, stated that POWA, under the national leadership of Chief Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, remains committed to promoting the welfare, empowerment and dignity of police wives and widows.
She noted that the initiative was part of the Association’s broader efforts to equip women within the police family with the necessary support and opportunities to become self-sufficient, while assuring that POWA will continue to initiate programmes that strengthen families and enhance the wellbeing of its members.
While giving his opening remarks, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, commended the FCT POWA Chapter for its commitment to the welfare and empowerment of police families.
He noted that supporting police wives and widows is an act of care and investment in the stability and resilience of police families, particularly those who have made sacrifices in support of policing and service to the nation.
The FCT Police Command appreciates the leadership and members of POWA FCT Chapter for the initiative and urges the beneficiaries to utilise the empowerment support responsibly and serve as positive examples within their families and communities.
