Presidential ambition: I am waiting for Buhari’s directive, Badaru says

Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has said that he is waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to decide the fate of his presidential ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Badaru spoke in an interview with the BBC Hausa, shortly after Northern APC governors made a case for a presidential candidate from the South, urging aspirants from the region to quit the race.

“I can’t just decide to withdraw my ambition without hearing from the president,” he said.

“If he says we can contest, we will. If he says it should go to South, we will then explain to our teeming supporters, especially in the North, why they should be patient.

“If what I have seen in the statement [by Northern APC governors and political leaders] is the best way out, then I will have no objection.”

Dateline Nigeria reports that President Buhari had in a meeting on Saturday night, urged all the APC presidential aspirants to consult among themselves and agree on a formidable candidate for the party.
