The Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, Social Investment Programme, has presented financial support to families of security personnel who died in service.
The event is the second edition targeted at families of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday joined other top government officials at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for the event.
A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and cater to their dependents.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu; the Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA; and wives of heads of other security agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, IGP Disu delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention.
He described the support as “a profound demonstration of national gratitude and compassion,” noting that the Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond policy.
“This initiative is about restoring dignity and standing with our citizens at their most vulnerable moments,” the IGP said.
Addressing the bereaved families, Disu assured them that the sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten by a grateful nation.
“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel and providing continuous support to the families of our departed heroes,” he added.
The RHI financial support programme is part of the Federal Government’s welfare drive for families of security personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
