Residents loot BUA truck conveying food items to Bauchi community

BUA official said the state government was misled into believing that the residents protected the truck

The Recovery Officer of BUA Transport Alhaji Salisu Hamza Ahmed has said that their truck carrying food and other items was looted in Dabe Village in Bauchi State after the vehicle was involved in an accident on the Federal Highway.

Ahmed said thia while reacting to a story in which Bauchi State Government rewarded the community for protecting the essential items in the truck when it had accident in the area.

He said the truck was conveying the items from its destination to a warehouse in Azare Headquarters of Katagum.Local Government area when it had a tyre bust, resulting in a crash.

He said “The incident occurred between 8am and 9am in the village up to 1am in the night. They battled with people not to loot the items but they refused.”

The recovery officer alleged that residents, including women, old and children, seized the opportunity to help themselves to the trailer’s cargo, carting away 2,932 cartons of suphagheti among others.

Ahmed said they brought a vehicle to evacuate the items in the truck and invited police to protect the items but people overpowered them.

“Even passersby took cartons of suphagheti from.the accident truck,” he said, adding that are grateful to Almighty Allah because no one lost his life,

He also said apart from the nearyly 3000 cartons looted, they delivered1500 cartons to Azare, noting that the state governmentwas probably misled inyo rewarding the residents.

It was reported recently that the Bauchi State Government appreciated Daben Kasuwa community for resisting the temptation to scoop items from the truck, commending them and commended for showing the good culture of the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed said unlike what happened in various parts of the country, the people of the village which is along the Bauchi–Maiduguri highway rather than scramble for the food items conveyed by the BUA truck that was involved in an accident in the village, they assisted in protecting the items.

Impressed by their good conduct in the Holy month of Ramadan in spite of the economic situation in the country, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed donated 200 bags of food items to the community as a mark of appreciation and commendation.

An elated Bala Mohammed also pledged to revisit their challenges as presented to him during the last electioneering campaigns stressing that they actually deserve attention.
