Russia attacks TV tower in Kyiv, kills 5, Ukraine says

Russia strikes TV tower in Ukraine’s Kyiv, TV channels across the country stopped broadcasting several minutes ago. At least five people have been killed, AFP reported citing officials.

Earlier, Russia had issued a warning that it would strike Kyiv‘s security service HQ with ‘high-precision weapons’. Residents living close by were asked to evacuate.

Russia said it would launch a strike against the ‘Center for Information and Psychological Operations’ in the Ukrainian capital to suppress the number of information attacks on various state institutions and Russian citizens.

Moscow has issued warnings for residents who live in close proximity to communications towers near the headquarters in the center of Kyiv to evacuate their homes for their own safety.

Meanwhile, satellite images taken by US technology firm Maxar Technologies on Monday showed a 64-kilometre (40-mile) long military convoy of Russia was seen heading towards Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry said Russia was barbaric for attacking the TV tower.

On twitter, the foreign ministry said “Russian troops fired on the TV tower, near the Memorial complex #BabynYar”. It added: “Russian criminals do not stop at anything in their barbarism. Russia = barbarian.” (India Today)
