Sex-for-role: Nafisa Abdullahi dares Naziru Ahmad to name those involved

  • Says I may be the highest paid female artiste in Kannywood

Popular Kannywood star Nafisa Abdullahi has challenged Naziru Ahmad to name those involved in sex-for-roles in the Kannywood industry.

The actress said this on her Instagram page in the wake of claims by Ladin Cima, aka Tambaya, one of the elders in the Kannywood that she is being paid between N2000 and N5000 for her roles.

The claim by Ladin Cima has exposed the division in the movie industry leading heated exchanges among many stakeholders.

Nafisa was reacting to remarks by Naziru S. Ahmad, alias Sarkin Waka, that some female artistes engage in sex-for-roles, challenging him to name those involved if he has facts.

The actress, who recently quit her role in the ongoing series of Labarina, said “In every profession, there are different problems that people face. There are those who cheat others and there are victims.

“The comments made by Naziru Ahmad constitute serious allegations that should not be treated lightly, especially the ‘Sexual Assault’ part, which is why I am delving into the matter that did not concern me… but when you consider the allegation, it actually concerns me since I am also a female artist.

“lf what he said is true, and he has evidence or witnesses, I am one of those interested in knowing those involved. Since he has told the whole world, fairness demands that we help those thaf have been victimised and addressing the issue. This is because our laws in this country, and thise of the film industry, no section said a lady should sleep with you for films. There are consequences and the people who’re guilty should be seriously punished.

“Lastly, any lady that was ever asked to give herself for films, fight for your rights and tell us those involved, because if you don’t speak up, the problem won’t be solved.”

‘I remain one of, if not the highest paid female artist in Kannywood’

Also in a letter she released, Nafisa said that she may be the highest paid female artist in Kannywood and has never chased after roles or contracts in the Hausa film industry.

“If you want to make allegations, make factful allegations that you can back up.

“I will say this once and not squabble over dirt with anyone; if anyone has a problem with anyone be bold enough to call the person by name don’t do things for the sake of clout chasing and ruin your own life or career.

“I remain one of, if not the highest paid female artist in Kannywood and I have never chased after a script or contract, they come to me, I did not attain this by accepting any standard from anyone, I set my standard for myself, if you’re at a level where you take anything for a job, thať’s the standard you will remain at unless you build yourself and your art. Put in the honest work and you will reap the benefits,” Nafisa said.
