Sokoto indigenes not impersonated in FG’s recruitment, says commissioner

Sokoto State Government has denied reports that individuals from other parts of the country impersonated Sokoto indigenes and secured Federal Government jobs, particularly recruitment into the military and para-military organisations.

The Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, retired Col. Garba Moyi Isa, said the state government has “investigated and verified these claims to be false”.

Though the commissioner did not name any person or group, Dateline Nigeria reports that the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) accused the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDIPB) of short-changing Sokoto State in its 2019/2021 Replacement and Recruitment Supplementary List.

“The state government became worried when some names identified not to be those of indigenes of Sokoto popped up in some online publications showing that the purported individuals were beneficiaries of recruitments into some security organisations.

“As a result, His Excellency, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal directed that we should get to the bottom of these claims. We did and found out that all of it was false,” Col. Moyi said in a statement shared by Tambuwal’s spokesman Muhammad Bello.

“So, we want to assure the people of the state, especially the teeming qualified youths desirous of getting gainful employment, who are yet to do so, that the state government is vigilant and up to date with matters regarding issues of job openings, placements and career development as they affect its citizens.

“Part of Gov. Tambuwal and the current administration’s efforts is not focused only on infrastructural development but also harnessing the potentials of our youths for engagement in state and national government employments.

“Nevertheless, we remain committed to the unity of this country and the right of other Nigerians to live and associate freely in any part they choose to stay,” Col. Moyi stated, emphasizing that some Nigerians who were born or raised in Sokoto have been allowed to get employment as indigenes without qualms.
