SON arrests man producing, selling adulterated fertilizer in Bauchi

The Standard Organizations of Nigeria (SON) has arrested a man named Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed for “producing and selling adulterated fertilizer to farmers in Chinade district of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State” 

The North East, Zonal Coordinator, of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria Alh Adamu Abba Galaje stated this today when he paraded the suspect before newsmen in Bauchi.

He said the suspect was arrested at Chinade by the organisation’s operation team members who also confisicated over 150 bags of counterfeit fertilizer from the suspect.

Abba said the suspect was apprehended when he was producing counterfeit Golden Fertilizer by mixing four different brands of fertilizers, namely Mai Rago, Freedom, Boko and Indorama, repackaging them inside Golden fertiluzer bags and selling same as original.Golden fertilizer to farmers 

The head of operations team, Murtala Sa’ad said they acted after they received a report, following which he quickly mobilized his team to the site.

He said “During the operations we were able to confisicate over 150 bags of counterfeit Golden fertilizer already made at the site and we closed down the place and got him arrested without any resistance from both the producer and the community”,.

The operations officer said after investigation, the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution on violation of section (26) in relation to Standard of the SON ammended Act of 2015.

The suspect Alh Ibrahim Ahmed Chinade confessed to have committed the offence out of ignorance of the law.

Ibrahim said “I was ignorant of the existing laws on standardization, and secondly, the high demand in the market by our farmers of the Golden Fertilizer product made me to do it. I appeal to the Standard Organisation to temper justice with mercy.”
