Tambuwal’s wife collaborates with TUC over rise in gender-based violence

Worried by the surge in cases of gender-based violence and sexual harassment in Sokoto State against women Trade Union Congress Women Commission Sokoto State Chapter in its resolve to curb GBV in the State has partnered with Her Excellency Dr. Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

She made the promise in Sokoto when she received the TUC Women Commission Sokoto State Chapter who paid her a courtesy visit in her office.

Dr. Tambuwal commended the TUC leader for her initiatives since assuming office, especially in the areas of rape and other related cases

Dr. Mariya said that TUC’s efforts in such sensitive issues would go a long way in bringing about positive behavioral change in society.

She said that women and children, as vulnerable groups in the society, must be empowered in order to succeed, adding that women’s financial status, when raised, will reduce poverty, benefit the family and the society by extension.

Dr. Mrs. Tambuwal further informed the TUC team that her NGO http://mtdi.ng is working in collaboration with UNICEF, UNFPA, USAID the Ministry of Women Affairs, and other stakeholders to curb the menace of violence against women and children while exploring options necessary in the area of women empowerment as well as interventions for children and other vulnerable groups in Sokoto State and beyond.

She further announced that her NGO, Mariya Tambuwal Development Initiative (MTDI), is also working with other partners to complement Sokoto State Government’s efforts in putting the needed structures that will help curb the GBV menace and other relevant sectors.

In her speech, the TUC Secretary added that they paid the courtesy call on Mrs. Tambuwal to identify with her efforts in various areas of GBV women empowerment, support for vulnerable groups, and other humanitarian services that MTDI has been rendering to the needy for a long time

She disclosed that TUC had been engaged in various activities that call for greater collaboration between MTDI and the Commission.
