Taraba owes primary school teachers, LG workers 6 months salary

Primary school teachers and local government workers in Taraba State are groaning over six months unpaid salaries.

The affected workers say they now ‘go through hell’ to be able to take care of themselves and their families.

One of the unpaid workers told BBC Hausa that it has reached a stage where they are even being denied loans because people say they have no means of paying back.

Another worker said she and her family are finding life difficult to the extent that even what to eat is a constant struggle.

She said, ”As it is, primary school teachers cannot make marriage proposals because people will be asking how they will feed their family.”

Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, a political adviser to Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku, said the workers are being paid, but said he cannot say where they stopped or what months they are being owed. “They are certainly being paid,” he said.
