An emotional moment unfolded at the Tribute to Our Troops concert in Maiduguri as Fatima Ibrahim, the daughter of a fallen hero, Sgt. Umar Ibrahim, moved the audience to tears with her heartfelt tribute.
The concert, held Wednesday night at the Theatre Command Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai, was organized by the TTOT Foundation in collaboration with the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Fatima, while holding back tears, honored her late father’s sacrifice, saying, “My father was a great soldier. How I wish he were here to celebrate with us.” She expressed gratitude to the military and the Borno State Government for supporting her family, praying for divine protection for soldiers still on the battlefield.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, responded with a personal donation of N500,000 to Fatima and N100,000 each to four other girls who shared similar emotional tributes for their fallen parents. The governor also donated N300 million to the TTOT Foundation to further support the welfare of wounded soldiers and their families.
The event featured performances by comedians and musicians from Lagos, Delta, and Borno, bringing moments of joy and entertainment while highlighting the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s military heroes.
Governor Zulum urged the TTOT Foundation to use part of the donation to support wounded soldiers residing in Maiduguri, emphasizing that the state government has established several vocational training centers to empower the youth and plans to build more across all 27 local government areas before the end of his administration.
Princess Olivia Adom, founder of the TTOT Foundation, commended the military’s selfless service and thanked the Borno State Government for its continuous support. She encouraged Nigerians to show more appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces, stating:
“To every soldier across Nigeria, your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Nigerians are beginning to see how dedicated you are to protecting our nation.”
The General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Major General AGL Haruna, said the event aimed to honor the sacrifices of both fallen heroes and active-duty soldiers, ensuring the public understands the critical role they play in safeguarding the nation.
