Tinubu sacks Edun, Dangiwa in minor cabinet shakeup

President Bola Tinubu has sacked Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The changes were announced in a memo issued Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who moves up from Minister of State for Finance to substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

In Housing, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, Ph.D., has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate. Dangiwa was ordered to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

Akume said all handover processes must be completed on or before close of business Thursday, April 23, 2026.

“The changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume wrote.

He added that the president exercised powers conferred by Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.

Tinubu thanked Edun and Dangiwa for their service and wished them well in future endeavors.

“The process of reinvigoration shall be continuous,” Akume quoted the president as telling cabinet members.
