Railway services have been grounded as workers commenced a three-day warning strike to press for better welfare and condition of service.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is set to lose millions of naira with the stoppage of passenger and cargo train services by the striking workers.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the workera have taken over the Amina J. Mohammed Railway Complex in Idu Abuja, Mobolaji Johnson Train Station in Ebute-Metta in Lagos, Rigasa train station in Kaduna and others.
Many passengers have been forced to use the road, including the Kaduna-Abuja highway which many have abandoned due to the activities of kidnappers and other criminals.
The striking workers say, after the three-day warning strike, they will give the NRC management some time to right the wrongs, failing which they will embark on full, indefinite industrial action.
