Troops foil terrorist extortion mission, neutralise fighter, recover weapons in Yobe

Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled a terrorist mission to extort civilians in Yobe State, neutralising one fighter and recovering weapons and logistics items.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.

According to the statement, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from local communities.

Acting on the information, troops of Forward Operating Base Bukarti, in conjunction with 27 Task Force Brigade, deployed on an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis at about on July 19, 2026.[time]

The troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower. During the firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was immobilised and its driver neutralised. Four other terrorists fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.

In follow-up exploitation operations conducted on July 20, 2026, along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis, troops recovered the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle.

Other items recovered include 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs such as paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools assessed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment activities.

Operation HADIN KAI said the operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and its sustained offensive posture to disrupt terrorist logistics, dismantle illicit revenue networks, and deny terrorists freedom of action across the North East Theatre.

The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements through intelligence-driven offensive operations, in synergy with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens, until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace is restored in the region.
