Troops repel ISWAP attack on Magumeri base, neutralise several terrorists

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an early-morning attack by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Magumeri in Sector 3, neutralizing several insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons, the Joint Task Force (North East) said on Thursday.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base in the early hours of May 7, 2026, under poor visibility and briefly breached an isolated section of the camp.

“Impressively, troops fought gallantly and decisively contained and defeated the attack by neutralizing scores of the terrorists,” the statement said.

A follow-up sweep of the area revealed extensive blood trails, signs of body drags, and recovered corpses, confirming heavy casualties among the attackers. Recovered items included PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, and magazines.

The military said two soldiers were killed in the encounter, while an officer and other wounded personnel are in stable condition and receiving treatment. Some equipment and temporary structures were also damaged by fire during the intense battle.

Troops are currently conducting further exploitation operations in the area to consolidate gains and assess additional battle damage.

The failed assault “further underscores the fighting spirit of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action across the Theatre of OPHK,” the statement added.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their performance and urged them to maintain operational momentum.
