UDUS approves recommendations, introduces Third Spillover for four-year programmes

The sub-committee senate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto had on 31st of March, 2021 at its 399th meeting, approved seven recommendations in the University’s programmes.

This was revealed in an internal memorandum sent from the school registrar to the provost, Faculties Dean, and directors on Wednesday, 31st of March, 2021 with the ref no UDUS/R/ACA/202B/II and subject, Re: Report of the Senate Sub-Committee on Concessional Approval.

The recommendations which are approved commenced with the introduction of a third spillover privilege for the students of four years undergraduate degree programmes in the institution, starting from the students of the 2015/2016 academic session.

The memo announced the introduction of the third spillover which will serve as both short and long-term measures to clear the current number of concessional applications and eliminate any need for the concessional session.

The memorandum reads: “Senate at its 399th meeting held on 31st March 2021, considered the above report and approved the following recommendations therein:

“A third spillover should be introduced for all students of four-year undergraduate degree programmes in the University, effective from 2015/2016 academic session. This will serve as both a short and long-term measure to clear the current number of concessional applications and eliminate any need for the concessional session.

“All amnesty students who have applied for concessional registration to enable them to graduate should be allowed a session to graduate as a last chance.”

It, therefore, recommended that all applications for amnesty up to the 2019/2020 academic session should be accepted and granted before terminating it thereafter.

It reads: “All applications for amnesty should be accepted and granted up to 2019/2020 academic session. Thereafter, the amnesty policy shall be terminated.

“To avoid further delay of graduation, students who lately discovered they could not graduate due to reasons mentioned in (i) above, should be allowed to register at any point the discovery was made unless they choose to skip the session for the next.

“No students should be unnecessarily penalized for inadequacies/inefficiencies of the system or failure of individuals to effectively discharge their responsibilities. Hence, the Faculty Academic Misconduct Committee should hasten the processing of cases in time.

“Any member of staff found wanting on issues that caused unnecessary delays in the graduation of students should be appropriately reprimanded.”

The internal memorandum finally read that all issues that are associated with the school portal (EduERP) should be settled by the Management Information System (MIS) once and for all.

“Problems associated with EduERP should be resolved by MIS once and for all,” the statement stated.
