We’re doing our best to ensure Walida’s release, Jigawa governor says

The Jigawa State Government says it is doing its utmost to ensure the release of Walida Abdulhadi, a native of the state, who is alleged to have been abducted and forcibly converted by a DSS official.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, he said the state government is taking the matter very seriously, due to the emotional nature of the story.

Walida’s case continues to attract the attention of Nigerians, with civil society organizations persistently calling for justice for the girl.

Earlier, a DSS official was accused of abducting the girl from Jigawa State, forcing her into marriage, and converting her religion, and she has since given birth.

Last month, a court in the country ordered Walida’s release and reunification with her parents, but she remains in DSS custody.

The state government said the state’s Ministry of Justice is following up on the girl’s case to ensure that all appropriate legal procedures are followed within the law.

”The ministry is working with the relevant authorities to protect the girl’s rights,” the statement said.

The statement further noted that the state governor himself, along with other senior government officials, has contacted the relevant authorities to ensure justice in the matter.
