Why NIPR chose Uba Sani as patron – Information minister

Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been named Patron of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in recognition of his commitment to effective communication and public relations.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said this on Tuesday shortly after the Governor’s investiture as fellow and patron of the institute in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor hosted the Third Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Week themed “Food Security: From Policy Paper to Public Plate”

The minister described Gov. Sani as one of the most friendly communication associates in Nigeria, noting that the honour reflected his dedication to information management rooted in public relations.

He recalled how the Kaduna State Ministry of Information was restored in May 2025, ten years after it was scrapped, following his advice to the governor.

“In December 2024, His Excellency joined us at the National Council on Information and National Orientation meeting.

“At that time, Kaduna State had no Ministry of Information. Upon our recommendation, he immediately restored the Ministry,” he said.

The minister added that when NIPR approached him to inform the governor about the 2026 NIPR Week, he expressed interest and agreed to host the event in Kaduna.

Speaking after the investiture, the governor said the theme of the NIPR Week aligned with his administration’s priorities.

“The theme aligns with Kaduna State’s vision of translating policy into productivity, prosperity, and shared progress.”

Sani said the state’s agricultural agenda prioritises community empowerment, value chain development, and positioning Kaduna as a hub of resilience and opportunity.

According to him, effective public relations is essential for bridging the gap between policy and public impact.

“Policies succeed not only because they are well designed, but because they are understood, trusted, and embraced by the people they are meant to serve,” he said.

The governor highlighted Kaduna State’s commitment to agriculture, acknowledging a significant increase in budget allocations from N1.48 billion in 2023 to N108 billion for 2026.

He listed initiatives under the Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) programme, including support to over 120,000 smallholder farmers with improved seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals, mechanisation, and solar powered irrigation systems.

“The philosophy of our administration is that agriculture must be continuous, not seasonal or selective, but inclusive,” he added.

NAN reports that the event marked a milestone in strengthening partnerships between government and professionals to drive development through strategic communication and public engagement.

Present at the event was Dr Brylyne Chitsunge, a South African-based food security expert and CEO of Elpasso Farms.(NAN)
