Yobe govt reacts as insurgents kill 40 in Gaidam village

The Yobe State Security Council under the chairmanship of Governor Mai Mala Buni has reviewed security situation in the border communities affected by a recent security challenge.

Dateline Nigeria reports that this followed the alleged killing of about 40 people by Boko Haram terrorists at Gurokayeya village of the Gaidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to report, the killings may not be unconnected with the inability of the farmers in the community to pay taxes to the insurgents on their harvest.

The Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam Dahiru (rtd), told the press in Damaturu after the state security council meeting that the recent security challenge was as a result of infiltration of suspected insurgents into the state.

“Yobe state shares common borders with Borno state, and an international boundary with Niger Republic.

“The security agencies have deployed security men to the area and we are studying the report on the infiltration to forestall future occurances.

“Calm and normalcy have returned to the affected villages” Gen. Abdulsalam said.

He called on the people to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and persons in their communities.

The Adviser commended the security agencies for their resilience to check any possible threat in the state.

Meanwhile, a delegation is to visit and the community to commiserate with the families of the deceased persons
