16 Plateau Assembly members-elect tell Speaker to inaugurate them

Sixteen members-elect of the Plateau State House of Assembly have asked the Speaker, Gabriel Dawang, to swear them in, having received their certificates of return as ordered by the Court of Appeal.

The lawmakers-elect, through their counsel, Sunday Obende, said they wrote the speaker, pursuant to Section 94 of the Nigerian Constitution and Order 3 Rule 3 of the Standing Order of the Plateau State House of Assembly, 2021.

The new members were issued with their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on December 24 after the election tribunal and Court of Appeal sacked 16 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who subsequently elected the sole members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), as the new speaker.

The new speaker thereafter announced two months recess and promised not to swear-in the incoming new members until January 23.

The 16 members are Nimchak Nansak, Dagogot Owen, Maiyaki Bala, Daniel Listick, Laven Jacob, Adamu Yanga, Kwarpo Sylvanus, Yusuf Chollom, Bendel Nanewat, Wallangko Ibrahim, Dachung Dadon, Dalvop Gyang, Eli Bako, Sunday Mark, and Nanalong Daniel.

They asked the speaker to reconvene plenary to swear them in before the earlier date announced by the house.
