2023 Hajj: Kaduna refunds over 3,000 pilgrims, awaits account details for others

The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency (KSPWA) said it has paid over 3,000 pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj of the refunds they received from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

A statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Yunusa Mohammed Abdullahi, said each pilgrim received N61,080, and the funds were disbursed directly into the pilgrims’ accounts.

NAHCON had stated that the refunds were due to an interruption in the electricity supply during the pilgrims’ stay at Muna, which affected the cooling systems and consequently caused inconveniences.

Abdullahi acknowledged the frustrations of those still awaiting refunds and expressed gratitude for their patience, noting that delays were due to pilgrims’ not providing the necessary account information.

The statement reassured stakeholders that another round of refunds is slated for disbursement next week, with the agency working diligently to ensure all eligible pilgrims receive their payments.

He emphasized the importance of timely submission of account details, urging all 2023 pilgrims who have yet to receive payment to contact the Registration Officer at their respective local government offices.

“These details are critical for quick refunds to the remaining pilgrims,” he stated.

Noting that the KSPWA remains committed to the smooth disbursement of refunds.

While quoting the Executive Chairman of the Agency, Malam Salihu Abubakar he said, “We understand the significance of these refunds and are dedicated to completing the disbursement process efficiently.”

The statement said that in addition to handling the 2023 refunds, the agency is already shifting its focus toward preparations for the upcoming Hajj.

The prompt conclusion of this year’s refund process will enable the agency to focus more resources and attention to preparation for this year’s Hajj.
