A group of nine lawyers in Kano State has asked a Sharia court in Kano to stop 10 TikTok users from spreading immorality via their pages.
The spokesperson for Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, who confirmed the development to the BBC Hausa on Wednesday, said the lawyers accused the listed TikTokers of promoting explicit content in their music.
The lawyers filed their case before a Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal in Bichi, following which the court asked the Commissioner of Police in the state to investigate the accused persons.
The accused persons include Mr 442, Safara’u, Dan Maraya, Amude Booth, Kawu Dan Saraki, Ado Gwanja, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, Ummi Shakira, Samha M Inuwa and Babiyana.
Ado Gwanja did not respond to a request for comment, the BBC Hausa said, adding that it had earlier placed a call to his phone number but failed to go through.
But Mr 442 said he just woke up to see the court paper doing the rounds online. “For now, I won’t comment since the matter is already before the court, but I have handed over everything to my lawyer.”
The rest of the accused persons could not be reached up to the time of filing this report.
There was controversy recently in the social media after it was alleged that the Hisbah in Kano was looking for Safara’u, an allegation she dismissed saying she was not aware.
Also, a new song by Ado Gwanja, which is trending on social media titled “A Sosa”, elicited harsh reactions from some quarters, including clerics.
