No fewer than 30 bandits have died as fight broke out over sharing of rustled animals in Zamfara State, according to a report by Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service.

Many others were also said to have sustained various degrees of injury, a resident who wants to remain anonymous said.

“Bandits rustled cattle from a community. But during sharing of the stolen animals, some were given few, while others got many.

“That irked those who felt the sharing was not fair and that was how a serious fight started. As much as 30 bandits were killed while about 20 others were injured,” he said.

The clash between Kachalla Halilu’s boys and those of Bello Kaura reportedly took place in Kawaye forest, the source said, adding that they heard sounds of gunshots during the clash and they got to know about the casualties through the stories being shared by the bandits.

Another resident in the community said some gold miners were even caught up in the exchange of fire between the bandits.

“They rustled more than 1000 cattle and camels from Sokoto. But they failed to agree on the sharing formula. They left so much destruction and shot at least 17 people who are now on admission at a hospital in Nasarawa,” he said.

The Zamfara State Police Command could not be reached for comments, despite numerous attempts.
