After 5-day blackout, power restored in Kaduna, others as Uba Sani intervenes

Electricity supply has been restored across Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi states following the intervention of Governor Uba Sani in the strike by the electricity workers.

The workers had embarked on an indefinite strike on February 3, 2025, over the alleged management’s plan to disengage 900 employees, leading to widespread blackouts.

Following negotiations brokered by Governor Sani at the Kaduna State Government House on Friday night, the union agreed to suspend the strike and restore power supply.

Governor Sani expressed concern over the hardship caused by the power outage and urged both the union and management to find a peaceful resolution. As part of the agreement, Kaduna Electric has halted the planned layoffs pending further discussions.

The company had earlier clarified that only 450 workers were slated for disengagement, citing financial and operational constraints.

The resolution highlights the critical role of dialogue in resolving industrial disputes and ensuring stable electricity supply in the affected Northern states.
