
The newly appointed Commander Infantry Corps (CIC) Nigerian Army Major General Usman Abdulmumin Yusuf assumed Command as the 58th CIC on Friday, April 25, 2025, in a colourful ceremony.
The historic handing and taking over ceremony took place at the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre (HQ ICC) Jaji, Kaduna State.
In his remarks, Major General Yusuf assured officers and soldiers of his determination to do his best by continuing to keep the flag flying high.
The new CIC promised to work with other Arms of the Nigerian Army and other Services, in accordance with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Philosophy, to ensure a safe nation for all.
He thanked his predecessor Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim for his support, pledging to build on his legacies as the CIC.
Major General Usman Yusuf is a member of 39 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Before his latest appointment, he was the Director General of Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria.
In his valedictory speech, the outgone CIC Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim, who is posted to the NDA as the Commandant thanked the Almighty God for the opportunity to serve as the 57th CIC.
He also used the occasion to express his profound gratitude and appreciation to the COAS Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM for giving him the opportunity to command the Elite Infantry Corps and his support in repositioning the Infantry Corps to where it is.
He further thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for his strategic guidance and support to the Infantry Corps.
Major General Ibrahim however charged officers and soldiers of the Corps to remain disciplined and hardworking for the betterment of the Infantry Corps, Nigerian Army and our dear country.
Highlights of the handing and taking over ceremony included the signing of handing and taking over notes, handing of the Command Flag to the new CIC and traditional lowering and hoisting of the Infantry Flags.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, Commandant Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peace Keeping Centre, Major General Ademola Adedoja, Commandant Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Major General Frank Etim, Commandant Warrant Officers’ Academy, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, Directors from AFCSC and HQ ICC as well as Principal Staff Officers of the Infantry Corps among others.
