
The Chairman Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence Senator Shehu Buba Umar has harped on stakeholders and community collaboration to combat the scourge of crime in Duguri Gwana District in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South) said this on Thursday in Bauchi when he paid a condolence visi6 to the families of nine hunters and ten civilians killed by bandits in Garin Mansur recently .
Senator Buba visited the houses of the deceased and the palace of the District Head of Duguri, village heads of Alkaleri, Garin Mansur and Gwana.
He said “When the incident happened I was outside the country, now I came back and decided to pay a condolence visit to the families of the deceased, Bauchi State is known as a peaceful state, but some times we use to record insecurity in this area because some elements are trying to invade our midst.
“We must collectively resist any of such attempts by aligning ourselves with the goals of promoting a strong community neighbourhood through timely information circulation to our traditional or community leaders and security agencies.”
He said he will collaborate with Bauchi State Government, security agencies, youths and communities to find a lasting solution to the security situation in the area.
Senator Buba expressed the need for communities to share information to deal with the issue of insecurity across the state with security agencies”
He donated N10m to the families of the deceased.
Senator Shehu Buba was accompanied by Rep Alhaji Kabiru Y Makama known as Aky Makama, member representing Alkaleri/Kirfi Federal Constituency.
He condemned the attack, described it as a cowardly act that undermines the safety and security of the area.
Dateline Nigeria reports that on May 4, 2025, a team of hunters from Duguri and Gwana District, while on a routine patrol along Duguri, Mansur, and the Dajin Madam forest bordering Bauchi and Plateau State, was ambushed by armed bandits.
The confrontation resulted in casualties on both sides, including members of the vigilante group and the bandits. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 19 lives and the theft of 1,156 cows.
