Bauchi council boss dies two weeks to by-election

The acting Chairman of Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Alhaji Wali Adamu Tumfafi has passed on.

He died Monday at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, after a brief illness.

His death came nearly two weeks before the conduct of bye election for Shira LG by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC)

The chairman and his deputy were impeached on 24 March 2025 and the commission had finalised arrangements to fill the vacancies.

The deceased Wali Adamu became the acting Chairman when he led the councillors in Shira LG to remove the elected Chairman Abdullahi Beli and his deputy, Usman Adamu, by members of the Shira LG Council over allegations of maladministration six to seven months after they were elected last August 2024.

In March 2025, the councillors in Shira LG Council impeached Chairman Abdullahi Beli and his deputy, Usman Adamu, following findings from an investigative committee.

In a statement led by Council Chairman Wali Adamu and issued under resolution number SLGLC/003, the council disclosed that both officials were found guilty of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, dereliction of duty, and abuse of office.

“The removal of the chairman and his deputy was based on the committee’s report, which established that they breached public trust through poor financial conduct and failure to perform their official responsibilities,” Adamu said.

Since then he became the Acting Chairman of Shira LG. Before his appointment, Wali had served as the councillor representing Tumfafi Ward where he was also the Leader of the council.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor,Comrade Mukhtar Muhammad Gidado announced his death.

He extended condolences of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to the Wali’s family,

Governor Bala described the late acting Chairman as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to the development of Shira local government and the state will be fondly remembered.

“Governor Bala on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, extends his deepest condolences to the immediate family of Alhaji Wali Adamu, the Katagum Emirate Council, and all citizens of the state over this great loss,”

The Government urged well-wishers to keep the deceased’s family in their prayers during this difficult time while the governor prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Wali jannatul firdaus and to give his family the strength to bear the loss.
